Comments: Authors attached dabcyl (quencher) and 6-fluorescein (fluorophore) to the 5' and 3' ends of the aptamer. In the presence of Hg²⁺ ions, the aptamer forms a hairpin with T-Hg²⁺-T bonds. This brings the quencher into proximity of the fluorophore.
