  • We are seeking qualified students or college graduates who are highly motivated and seek internship training and experience in biotechnology. Applications are accepted year around.

Fields: Molecular Biology - Chemistry - Engineering - Science-Related Fields
(both college students and graduate students are welcome)

What to Expect for Science-related Interns:

The Aptagen laboratory is located in Jacobus, PA, a suburb of York, beautifully surrounded by Lake Redman and conveniently situated off of Interstate 83.

The hours are very flexible (accommodating around school/class schedules); however, focused attention must be placed on the research experiment at hand. Science has its own hours. Typically, long hours for experiments are common and may include the weekends, if necessary. The research training is intensive but very rewarding and enjoyable.  The lab has an academic atmosphere where students receive a 'graduate school' experience.

We've received very positive responses from previous interns. They've learned more in Aptagen's lab than anywhere else-- experience they don't get from a classroom. Aptagen's internship program has given former students an edge and head-start over their peers without research experience, better preparing them for graduate school and successful careers in science.  Students learn a variety of techniques, how to troubleshoot experiments, properly maintain a detailed laboratory notebook, exercise laboratory math skills, and develop critical thinking skills-- all necessary for a successful career in science.

Laboratory experiments may be classified as mostly molecular biologically based, but chemistry may be an optional part of your biotech experience.  Techniques may include real-time PCR, electrophoresis, variety of assays, DNA/RNA synthesis, cloning, cell culture, surgical dissection, histology, fluorescence microscopy, etc...

    Minimal Requirements To Qualify:
    - Must devote at least 4 days a week, totaling at least 20 hours (including a Saturday morning twice a month for lab meeting - Science Interns Only)

The (part-time) internship is a contiguous 9 month program:

    1) Pro bono (volunteer) for the first tier (~90 days).
    2) Paid stipend of $125 bi-weekly for the second tier (~90 days).
    3) Paid stipend of $250 bi-weekly for the third and last tier before graduating from the program (~90 days).

Bonuses may be issued based on performance.

'Advanced Placement Path' - paid stipend of $500 bi-weekly: During the course of the program, exceptional intern(s) may be invited by management and promoted to full-time status for the remainder of the internship.

All successful graduates from Aptagen's internship program will receive Letters of Recommendation and full support into medical school or graduate school.
Custom-made DNA helix trophy gift (with name engraved) for successful graduates of Aptagen's Science Internship Program.

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQS):

    1) Can I only do a summer (3-month) internship?  No.  Three months is not enough time to receive adequate training experience in a laboratory setting and not worthwhile for the company to devote significant time and resources for a short period.  Six months would be the minimum acceptable time-frame, but nine-months is highly preferred and strongly recommended.

    2) When does the internship program start?  Anytime during the year.  You choose your start date.

    3) What days of the week can I devote to the lab?  Anytime (24/7); you make up your own schedule, but your schedule must satisfy the minimum requirements.

    4) Is there full-time employment available?  Full-time employment may be offered only to those who successfully complete Aptagen's internship program first.

    5) I'm a college graduate and have significant experience.  I cannot volunteer for the initial three months without additional pay.  Can an exception be made for my situation?  Unfortunately, No.

    6) What is the likelihood for successfully completing the Internship Program? The current internship success rate is 63%

Aptagen develops and manufactures aptamers (synthetic antibodies) which are ligands of RNA, DNA, and peptide oligos that bind to a variety of target antigens. Aptamers (synthetic antibodies) are sometimes referred to as “chemical antibodies or DNA antibodies.?Aptazymes are aptamers (synthetic antibodies) with enzymatic activity. A subclass of aptazymes called molecular switches is analogous to molecular beacons for fluorescent detection of analytes in test samples. Examples include allosteric ribozymes, also known as riboswitches.

Aptagen is also your premier source for custom oligos, small or large, regardless of complexity. With Aptagen's AptaBuilder?BETA, designing your specialized oligonucleotide online has never been easier. Simply select your desired oligo chemistry and begin typing A, C, G, T, U, or amino acids to produce a graphical representation of your oligo. Select from a variety of base types including DNA, RNA, 2'-F-RNA, 2'-O-Me-RNA, 2'-NH2-RNA, LNA alternatives, and amino acids. Design your specialized oligo by adding 5', internal, and 3' modifications to suite your needs and watch as your oligo statistics are calculated in real-time. Add your customized oligos to a Wish List or Shopping Cart. With the simplicity and flexibility of AptaBuilderTM BETA, the possibilities are literally endless for oligos; its power is unmatched by any other online oligo builders on the market today. Whether it is aptamer (synthetic antibody) oligos, unique or challenging oligos, conjugated oligonucleotides, or peptides, contact Aptagen to help solve your needs for all types of oligos.

Aptagen, LLC is a biotechnology company offering aptamer (synthetic antibody) products and services as research reagents, diagnostic and biomarker discovery tools, as well as for use in drug discovery and targeted delivery for therapeutics, and bioindustrial applications.
